Otoplasty surgery is one of the more common cosmetic procedures performed on young adults, although this procedure can be done at any age. This cosmetic procedure is designed to change the appearance of the external ear, such as bringing the ear closer to the head, reducing the size of the ear or reshaping the cartilage. The goal is to bring balance and proportion to the ears and face.
Although otoplasty surgery can be performed at any age, it is beneficial in childhood while the cartilage is still pliable making the ear easier to shape.
Your child is a good candidate if-
. he/she is 5 years or older
. in good health
. no history of scarring (keloids)
. wants to improve his/her appearance
. has realistic expectations
. is willing to carefully follow post-op instructions
