Breast Lift

Overview

A breast lift (mastopexy) provides a more youthful, lifted, firmer appearance to the breast by reducing excess skin and lifting the breast to a more favorable higher position. The procedure is designed to reduce and improve the sagginess or droopiness that may be seen due to pregnancy, nursing, weight loss, or the natural effects of gravity over time.

Dr. Delia collaborates with his patients to tailor each breast lift to what the patient wants aesthetically. He firmly believes in finding the right solution to empower his clients and restore their confidence. This makes him an ideal choice for women looking to turn their vision into a reality.

What does a breast lift address?

A breast lift restores the breasts to a rounder, elevated, more youthful looking state by removing excess tissue and tightening the surrounding skin. There are a variety of incisions utilized during a breast lift: the lollipop, the donut, the crescent, and the inverted-T.

  • The lollipop incision is a vertical incision on the breast and works to reduce sagging. With this technique, Dr. Delia will make a keyhole-shaped incision on the breast, preserving the nipple but removing any excess skin below.
  • The crescent lift gets its name from the crescent-shaped skin above the areola that is excised during the procedure. This incision is generally used for raising the location of the nipple by a small amount.
  • The donut incision is known for less scarring. With this procedure, Dr. Delia creates an incision on or around the perimeter of the areola and later a second outer incision to remove the “donut” of skin around it.
  • The inverted T incision is the oldest breast lift technique and is an excellent option for women with severe ptosis or sag requiring a significant amount of skin to be removed.

All of the incisions have distinct pros and cons. Ultimately your incision will vary depending on your aesthetic goals, which Dr. Delia will discuss with you at length during your one-on-one consultation.

What does a breast lift entail?

During the breast lift procedure, Dr. Delia may make inconspicuous incisions in areas around the areola and underneath the breast to remove excess skin and tighten the remaining skin envelope. This will help reposition the overall breast shape and nipple position to a more favorable, youthful, higher position.

Dr. Delia takes great care in minimizing the scarring, making incisions in the fine lines and natural skin creases that are easily hidden under clothing. A breast lift can typically be done on an outpatient basis and usually takes only a few hours or less to complete.

In some cases, a breast lift may be combined with breast augmentation to help patients with loss of breast volume (along with excessive breast sagging), achieve a more youthful shape. See here for more information.

Breast Lift Recovery

Since breast lift surgery is performed on an outpatient basis, patients go home in a bra with only light dressings over the incision lines. The bra is worn as a “dressing” for two to three weeks and discomfort is minimal in most patients. Light activities may be resumed after several days, however, strenuous exercise should be avoided for several weeks following surgery, in general.
