It is not uncommon with excess weight loss and aging to develop excess fatty tissue and sagging skin involving the thighs. Thigh lift surgery (thighplasty) is a surgical option to improve thigh contour and provide a smoother, tighter appearance. This is achieved by removing excess skin from the inner thighs resulting in an overall more firm and youthful shape.
Thigh Lift Procedure
A thigh lift may involve an incision from the groin area going down the inner thigh depending on the amount of excess skin present. This may also involve simply an incision in the groin area depending upon the amount of excess skin present. The remainder of the thigh skin can then be tightened to create a more youthful and tighter appearance. Liposuction can also be done along with this procedure. The scarring is usually kept light and in inconspicuous areas.
The procedure can typically be performed on an outpatient basis and in a few hours. Compression garments are usually recommended for several days after the surgery to aid in recovery and to minimize bruising and swelling. Most patients are able to resume normal activities within several weeks.
