What breast implant options are available?
There are two major types of breast implants; saline and silicone. There is a variety of different sizes and shapes to choose from with both types.
Saline implants are comprised of a silicone shell with saline solution filler. Silicone implants are also composed of an outer silicone shell with medical grade silicone gel filler. Both saline and silicone breast implants are approved by the FDA. The newer silicone breast implants have been approved by the FDA since November of 2006 and are considered to be safe for use in breast augmentation for patients over 22 years of age.
Each type of implant has its own advantages. Dr. Delia discusses thoroughly which option would be better for each unique patient, providing the most natural-looking beautiful results possible.
Are Silicone Breast Implants a better choice than Saline Breast Implants?
This is a very personal decision, but many patients feel silicone breast implants offer a more natural look and feel when compared to saline breast implants. There are many options to consider when making this choice as each patient may have particular goals in mind. The final decision can be determined at the time of consultation based on tissue characteristics and specific goals.
What if I Have Existing Breast Implants?
Revisional breast surgery can be done to change an existing breast implant and Dr. Delia can provide the most natural looking results for this revisional-type surgery based on each particular patient’s needs.
How do I Know Which Size is Appropriate?
Dr. Delia takes great care and tries to provide the most appropriate size for each particular patient. This usually is determined by a patient’s body type and not just by the particular size of the implant. It is more important to make the choice based on what is appropriate when considering the patient’s overall figure and what looks the most proportionate, natural and beautiful.

Benefits From Breast Revision Surgery
In the case of previous breast augmentation surgery, patients may experience problems including rupture or deflation of the breast implant, capsule contraction/firmness, “bottoming out” or asymmetries and/or rippled appearance caused by the breast implant—often due to excessive scar tissue. A patient may experience a hardened feeling to the breast and wish to switch to a different type of implant such as from saline to silicone or silicone to saline.
Dr. Delia is happy to address each individual patient’s concerns in consultation to help each patient meet their goals.
