Skin around the abdomen may lose elasticity and become stretched and saggy due to pregnancy, dramatic weight loss, or aging.
Dr. Stephen Delia performs the surgical procedure “abdominoplasty” most commonly known as a Tummy Tuck for many patients In the Boston area and surrounding southeastern Massachusetts.
A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is a type of body contouring surgery designed to improve overall abdominal shape, reducing stretch marks, unsightly bulges, and loose extra stretched-out skin.
Each tummy tuck is individualized to fit each patient’s need. Dr. Delia’s goal is to help patients regain their youthful appearance with an overall improved body contour and silhouette. This also provides the extra benefit of looking much nicer in form-fitting clothes.
Who are the best candidates for a tummy tuck?
The best candidates for a tummy tuck are women or men who are in relatively good shape but are bothered by a large fat deposit and/or loose abdominal skin which does not readily respond to diet or exercise. The surgery is particularly helpful for women who, through multiple pregnancies, have stretched their abdominal muscles and skin beyond the point where they can return to normal. Loss of skin elasticity in older patients, which frequently occurs with slight obesity or weighty loss, can also be improved.
What does Tummy Tuck Surgery entail?
Complete tummy tuck surgery usually takes several hours, depending on the extent of work required. In some cases “a mini tummy tuck” combined with liposuction may be all that is required, resulting in a quicker recovery and less scarring than a traditional abdominoplasty alone. A mini tummy tuck may take an hour or two. These procedures are usually performed on an outpatient basis with no need for an overnight stay in most patients.
Getting back to normal
It may take you several weeks to feel like your old self again. If you start out in top physical condition, with strong abdominal muscles, recovery from a tummy tuck will be much faster. Some people return to work as early as one to two weeks after surgery.
Your new look
